Will Dr Dowden agree to operate to correct what another surgeon has done?
A large part of Dr. Dowden's practice consists of correcting what other surgeons have done. It is an amzing and unfortunate fact that a great number of breast augmentations are performed by doctors who are not qualified to do so. Most of these call themselves plastic surgeons, but in reality they are not certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Dowden has done corrections of breast augmentation performed by general surgeons, dermatologists, ear nose and throat doctors, family doctors, gynecologists, cardiac surgeons, chiropractors, and even oral surgeons, all of whom proclaimed their expertise in plastic surgery of the breast. Perhaps there are some in those specialties who do the procedure well, but nevertheless a great many require correction.
However, even though Dr. Dowden does do a large number of these secondary corrections, that does not necessarily mean that he will recommend re-operation for every woman who seeks his advice in these situations. For re-operative surgery, Dr. Dowden requires a very high probability that the result will be satisfactory for the patient. If he believes that there is not a sufficiently high probability of a very significant improvement, he will advise against operation. It could happen that the patient then goes elsewhere, and might in fact get a good result, but that is sometimes to be expected. It is all a matter of probabilities.
