What is involved in a redo operation to go bigger?
When going bigger you are doing more than the original surgery. Unlike the first one, now it involves scar tissue which has formed from the first surgery, and the pocket size needs to be increased to make room for the new larger implant, very much like that which is used to treat capsule contracture. A decision is made by the patient and plastic surgeon about size and how to handle the scar tissue which has formed. Based on decisions made by you and your plastic surgeon about your needs, fees are calculated and are usually more than the fee for the first surgery due to the additional work needed. Because of the need to remove scar tissue, usually the incision needs to be right on the breast or areola, but Dr Dowden has been able to slightly increase the size (about one-half cup size) through axilla or through the navel.
