What is involved in a redo operation to go smaller?
The operation to just go smaller is much less involved than the original operation, and is virtually the same as that needed for prompt replacement of a deflated saline implant. Dr Dowden makes the incision in the same location as the previous scar (axilla, nipple, crease, or navel), through which he slides out the old implant after fully deflating it, then slides in the new implant, and fills it with sterile saline. The procedure is less painful than the original operation, and the recovery is faster. Going to a smaller size with a silicone-gel implant is more involved than this, but may still be easier on the patient than when the silicone-gel implant was put in originally.
