Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about
breast enlargement:

Should I only go to a Plastic Surgeon who was rated a "top doc" by a magazine?

From time to time I have been named on those "top doc" lists. The first time it happened, I was pleased about it because I imagined it meant that someone had actually recognized talent on my part, in my humble opinion of course. But after a little investigation I learned that it meant no such thing - all it meant was that my name was recognized by other doctors. At that time I was part of the staff of a very large organization with thousands of doctors - and we all recognized each others names, as well as knowing very few doctors outside our organization. When asked to name doctors in different specialties, it was our own docs whose names were put in. Those thousands of votes added up.

Sadly, we doctors have very little awareness of the quality of our colleagues work and patient care even in our own specialty, and practically none at all for doctors in other specialties. So the names on these lists are basically just names that people have heard frequently, perhaps at political medical meetings, or from medical articles. They have no relation to actual quality of patient care. In my geographic area, the very best doctors in all specialties are usually not on these lists.

An extreme example, and a sad one, of how popularity and name-recognition can be misleading, has been the highly-promoted "Television Plastic Surgeon" problem, in which certain doctors' names have become extremely well-known, yet they are not truly plastic surgeons and the actual quality of their work has been sub-standard and even led to some well-publicised very serious problems.

The bottom line? The times when my name lands on these lists no longer gives me pride. When I am looking for a doctor for myself or a member of my family, I am likely to avoid the ones on the "Top-doc" lists.
